The Leadenhall Building

The Leadenhall Building is a now iconic attraction of Central London. Let's have a look at it:

1. It has earned the nickname "The Cheese Grater" after it's distinct shape.

2. It is topped out but on completion it will become the 4th tallest building in London, and the UK.

3. The original building on the site, completed in 1969, was only 54 metres high. This one is 225 m!

4. Peter Rees, a City of London Corporation planning officer first invented the nickname "The Cheese Grater" after he told the architect, Richard Rogers, that he could: "imagine his wife using it to grate parmesan!"

5. It was made in the shape of a cheese grater so people could still see St Paul's Cathedral and that I didn't block the view stating back to an old law that you were supposed to be able to see St Paul's from everywhere in London.
