Empire State Building

The tallest building in the world for 41 years, the Empire State, with it's sleek, geometric Art Deco design and it's amazing distinction in New York. Here is what we have to say about it:

1. It weighs approximately 330,000 metric tons, with 6,500 windows, 73 elevators and a whopping 1,860 stairs.

2. Betty Lou Oliver survived a fall from 75 stories in a lift in the Empire State, after a cable snapped. It wasn't her day; the reason she was in the lift in the first place due to the fact that she had broken her leg in a plane crash earlier today!

3. The Empire State Building is illuminated in countless colours at night for different occasions. For example, during Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002, it was bathed in purple and gold (the colours of the House of Windsor).

4. It is now in the U.S National Register of Historic Places.

5. It was completed in only 410 days!
