Shanghai World Financial Centre

One of the most unique yet beautiful skyscrapers that ever existed, Shanghai World Financial Centre, or known often by it's initials SWFC (no, not Sheffield Wednesday), makes a vast impact on the Shanghai skyline. Let's read more about this remarkable structure.

1. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, it was built to withstand future disasters like plane crashes.

2. It was only originally supposed to be 460 m tall

3. In 2008, it was named the best building in Asia overall.

4. Construction actually started in 1997, but was put on hold for some time due to the Asian financial crisis.

5. On 14th August 2007, a fire broke out on the construction site of SWFC; although no on was killed or even particularly injured, it is still a big deal pondering the nature of the fire.
