Reaching up to a imposing 1,200ft, this extraordinary skyscraper in the Midtown area of the Manhattan metropolis has been 'dominating' the NYC skyline for up to six years now. As a beloved favourite of Super Scrapers as well the inhabitants of New York, which it overshadows, this mega structure looks great for its age! With its distinctive antenna and sleek design this skyscraper can easily claim to be well known throughout the nation of America and remarkably, the world. Take a look at just some of the impressive facts we have in store for you:
1. It provides home for the Historic-Rebuilt Henry Miller Theater, as well as new Subway entrances and an underground pedestrian walkway, between the 6th and 7th avenue subway lines.
2. Remington Building was the tallest building demolished to make way for this tower. This building was a neo-gothic high-rise design and was thought to be exceptionally narrow. May 2002 saw it to be demolished.
3. During its incongruous construction, a container fell off top crane, damaging some windows, to be replaced in facade. No one died but many suffered injuries.
4. The Bank of America was designed to set a new standard for high-performance skyscrapers, for both the office workers who occupy the towers and for a city and country that are awakening to the modern world of skyscrapers. It worked. Throughout the past nine years since then, more and more buildings have shot up. 'Fights' have been 'battled' for first place on the height record. Currently, the building is 26nd dropping down to 27rd soon when the Shanghai Tower is completed.
5. Ground was broken starting construction during a morning ceremony on August 2nd 2004. In attendance was Governor Pataki of New York, Mayor of New York Michael R. Bloomberg and Kenneth D. Lewis, President and CEO of Bank of America.
6. The design of the building makes it environmentally friendly, using technology such as floor-to-ceiling insulated glazing to contain heat and maximise natural light and automatic daylight dimming system. The tower also features a grey water system, which captures rainwater for reuse. Bank of America states that the building is made largely of recycled and recyclable material.
