Ping An Finance Centre

Undoubtedly our favourite Super Scraper, TSS our honoured to finally write about the Ping An Finance Centre. Yay! After almost a year of waiting and checking we are absolutely delighted to announce that the Ping An Finance Centre is complete! Emerging from the rooftops of Shenzhen, a skyscraping metropolis, the building represents the truly magnificent style of the Far East. We hope to see more of its fellow tall, dense and hyper-connected cousins appearing in the future.

1. Ping An Finance Center rises from a prominent location in the center of the city, connecting seamlessly to neighboring commercial and residential properties, as well as the Pearl River Delta’s high-speed rail corridor. At its final height, the tower symbolises a city which has witnessed unprecedented urban growth – from 300,000 people to approximately 10 million – in the 35 years since becoming China’s first Special Economic Zone.

2. The original plan was to add a 60m spire atop the building to surpass the Shanghai Tower and consequently become the tallest building in China and the Far East. However, unfortunately for us this idea would not work and the antenna would not top the PAFC due to the possibility that it might obstruct flight paths. KPF were not happy...

3. In January 2015, daredevil Malaysian photographer Keow Wee Loong scaled the incomplete building and released video footage and a photo taken from the crane at the top. Skyscraper aren't skyscrapers without the daredevil climbers!

4. Upon completion, the building will contain office, hotel and retail spaces, featuring a conference centre and a high-end shopping mall. The two uppermost stories will feature an observation deck. As its name suggests, it will also become the headquarters of Ping An Insurance. The building will have a total gross floor area of 378,600 square meters plus a basement area of 90,000 square meters. Who knows, maybe one day we could go there!

5A second building of the project, a 290-metre, 47-story skyscraper known as the south tower, is in its foundation stage. Not much is known about this building. All we know is that we definitely will be posting something about this in the near future. Construction started in April 2014 and is expected to be completed by 2018. The complex will include a planned retail bridge connecting the two skyscrapers from levels 3 through 6.

6. Fact 6..........Hmmmm....... This building is awesome!!!!!
